If there is one thing blogging can influence it is bandwagons. Living in Canada can sometimes prevent me from jumping aboard on some things like Stich Fix (big sigh on that one); however one thing I recently decided to jump on board with was a subscription box.
There are a few options making there way through Canada, but after a bit of research I decided to test out the Luxe Box. Instead of being a monthly subscription, it’s seasonly. Something I really like since I don’t know if I would want to get a bunch of samples monthly (okay I would, but I can’t justify that cost). Instead Luxe Box puts together quarterly boxes for $26 a box.
I got an email a few weeks ago asking if I wanted to upgrade to a Lou Lou box which would also include a four month subscription to Lou Lou Magazine. For the extra $5 and based on what appeared to be in the upgrade box I decided to go for it.
So for $31 here’s what I got!
one: cake heavy cream intensive hand repair balm – 100 ml
cost $22/100 ml
This stuff smells amazing – shocker it smells like cake. It’s an all natural Canadian product which I love, and as a traveller I also like that I could bring this on a plane with me. The cream is very heavy, not the best for a humid day; but a good cream to have around.
two: olay cc cream – full size 50 ml
cost isn’t advertised; however olay products are generally $20+
I recently bought a Revlon BB cream for the summer; and actually did a bit of research the other day about the difference between a CC and BB cream; which is essentially nothing. My mom is a huge fan of Olay products; however I think this stuff is a tad dark for me and is a bit sticky/greasy feeling. I might give it to my mom to see what she thinks. Joel also kept telling me my face smelled like burning.
three: kerastase elixir ultime the imperial – 3ml sample
cost $54/125 ml
I haven’t tested this out yet but it’s a ‘multi-use oil that can be used pre and post styling’. My hair gets oily super fast, we’re talking thin hair capital of the world. I could never wash my hair every other day. Dry shampoo can’t even save me. So I will be testing this out pre-styling.
four: purity made simple cleanser – 1 oz sample
I love purity products. I have had a sample in a Sephora order before. I am excited about this face wash. It’s a good size for me to save for a trip.
five: vichy liftactiv serum 10 eyes & lashes – 1 oz sample
$45 (not sure for what size)
this stuff is supposed to be for fine lines and make eyelashes appear thicker, shinier and fortified. I might be aging myself as a 25 year old right now, but I haven’t found a use or understanding of these products yet. It’s quite nice for applying; however I’m not sure if I can see any difference in my eyelashes.
six: clinique high impact mascara – 14 oz sample
I have gotten this mascara in a sample box of mascaras before and I didn’t like it. I think I found it clumpy and that it broke off throughout the day. It’s probably just going to sit in my drawer.
seven: knotties hair ties – 4 ties
$10/full size (the image shows five)
These seem to be all the rage in hair ties lately. My hair is short right now and I’m usually the thin black hair elastic type. So what’s the point of these? It’s it the modern day scrunchie?
eight: just cavalli eau de toilette spray – sample size 5 ml
This stuff is a bit too strong for me. Smells a bit rich for my taste. The bottle was also very hard to open.
nine: vichy aqualia thermal night spa replenishing and soothing sleeping mask – sample size 7 ml
I haven’t used this yet. It recommends using the product 1-3 times per week. I’m excited to try it, but don’t think it’s something I’d buy- just the type of sample I enjoy getting.
ten: essie sleek stick in so haute! – full size
I have used the essie sleek sticks before and they’re pretty good quality. I enjoy that they have the gems; however I find the quality isn’t quite there compared to the Sally Hansen product. I think they only lasted 2-3 days the last time I bought it. The colour I got is ‘so haute’ it’s like a orange-red with gold gems. I might wear them for the wedding next week, not sure yet!
I am impressed with the amount of product I got. It’s about $80 all together with 3 full size products. I am not a fan of all of them, but happy with the cream and essie sample. I’ll see how the next box goes and decide whether I will continue with a subscription box with my fingers crossed for a stitch fix coming to Canada.
